About Megan Ostermick-Durkee, LICSW
Hi! My name is Megan Ostermick-Durkee and I am an experienced and dedicated mental health therapist based on Whidbey Island who also offers telehealth services to anyone in Washington State. I have a Master's in Social Work (MSW) and am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in the state of Washington. I have 10+ years of experience working with people in a social service and mental health settings. I believe that all people deserve quality therapy services and I enjoy working with adult clients from a variety of backgrounds; I am especially drawn to working with people who have been impacted by trauma and/or other adverse life circumstances.
I approach therapy from a place of compassion, a desire to empower clients, and a strong belief in the ability of people to heal and grow. I strive to be a compassionate, open-minded, and welcoming therapist. Throughout our time together, I will work hard to empower you. I will respect your boundaries and, if needed or desired, help you enhance your ability to express your boundaries. I believe strongly in the inherent resilience of people, and believe that all people can improve their mental health, no matter how much they may be struggling at the moment. I strive to build a therapeutic relationship in which you can trust me and feel secure.
I view the therapeutic relationship as one of equals; I approach it from the perspective that you and I are both experts–I am the expert in treating mental health conditions and use this expertise to identify appropriate treatment approaches and interventions, whereas you are the expert on your life and have knowledge about what works and doesn’t work for you. I highly value the expertise you have in your life and work with you throughout the therapeutic process to ensure that we are not only using treatment approaches that research shows are effective in general, but that we use approaches that are effective for you specifically and are reflective of your goals in therapy. I will let you know what treatment options are available to address your concerns and then work collaboratively with you to develop a treatment plan that meets your needs and desires.
I strive to be aware of any implicit biases I may hold and enjoy working with individuals of diverse backgrounds, including those from the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities.
